Dr. Iman Bugaighis’ Top 5 Favorite Philanthropists And Advocates
On the last episode of “Smashing the Plateau,” you listened to Dr. Iman Bugaighis discuss her involvement with Libya and the fight for civil freedoms and change. (If you missed Iman, go back and listen here.)
One of the main things she emphasizes is the role of teamwork and support, and she has a handful of people in mind that have played a supporting role in her own life, sometimes directly and others as inspiration.
My hero and source of inspiration is my late sister Salwa Bugaighis, a human rights activist who was assassinated at her home in Benghazi, Libya on the 25th of June 2014. Her husband was kidnapped in the same incident and up to now, we don’t know anything about him.
2. Lisa Gibson
Lisa inspires me because of how she transformed the loss of her brother to a positive experience helping the third world.
Peter is an expert in humanitarian crises. He was there for us at the first days of the revolution, helping people who were anxious, including how we should treat prisoners. I’m deeply inspired by his work.
4. Bill Gates
I respect people who have everything in their lives, but then take a different path to help others, and to work very hard at it.
Warren Buffet gave money to Bill Gates’ foundation rather than creating another foundation himself, and that’s something I admire about him.
