Smashing the Plateau Guest Instructions

Thank you so much for agreeing to be a guest on Smashing the Plateau. It is a pleasure to be able to feature you.

The mission of Smashing the Plateau is empowering corporate refugees to start, run and grow their own business, so they can do more of what they love and get paid what they’re worth.

Stories resonate with listeners. How you overcame adversity or are currently dealing with a challenge can inspire listeners to find opportunities for growth. Sharing personal stories helps break down barriers and allows listeners to see the common humanity in all of us. Being open about your experiences creates a strong connection with listeners, making the story more relatable and inspiring listeners to take action that will impact their lives.

We will record both AUDIO and VIDEO.

We will be recording in 2 parts.

The following questions include the topics that we may discuss. Our discussion will be conversational. The questions are meant to help you prepare and get a sense of the flow.

PART ONE: 20-25 minutes (podcast episode)

  • Tell me a bit about your career journey — what brought you to where you are today?
  • What was the key pivot point or transition that set you on your current path?
  • What challenges did you face during that transition that others might relate to?
  • What were some of the biggest roadblocks you had to navigate after leaving corporate life?
  • How did you overcome those challenges — what worked, what didn’t?
  • What kinds of business challenges do you see other professionals facing as they make this kind of transition?
  • How has community, collaboration, or peer support played a role in your growth?
  • Where have you found trusted thinking partners or networks that made a difference?
  • What does having that support system mean for your ability to keep moving forward?
  • What is one thing a corporate refugee can do today that would help them move forward?
  • Is there a resource, mindset, or next step you wish you’d had earlier?

PART TWO: 1 minute (bonus question)

  • What’s your favorite thing about community?

This bonus clip may be used separately from the main episode in our newsletter, on social media, or other channels. It reinforces the theme of connection and peer support.

After we complete our recording, I will create an introduction that highlights you and our discussion.

TECHNICAL INSTRUCTIONS

We have scheduled one hour together, so that we will have sufficient time for an edited episode of about 30 minutes.  The conversation will be free flowing, following the format outlined above.

Several days before your scheduled recording, you will receive an email from SquadCast.fm <invite@squadcast.fm> with the subject line “You are invited to record on Smashing the Plateau.” This is an invitation with the session link for you to join the scheduled recording session using Squadcast.

Restart your computer before joining your recording session.

Use an Ethernet wired connection rather than WIFI for the best network stability.

Please read these instructions for additional details.

You will need to be in a quiet space, with an external microphone for audio input and external headset or earbuds for audio output. If you don’t have an external microphone for audio input and external headset or earbuds for audio output, you should purchase or borrow them for your recording session. Your computer’s built-in microphone and speaker are not sufficient quality.
