Geri Mazur’s Top 4 Sources for Tackling the Obstacles of Life and Work

On our most recent “Smashing the Plateau” episode, we featured Geri Mazur, a marketing expert who helps businesses stay relevant in today’s fast-paced climate. She gave us some stellar tips on creating a sense of demand, then fulfilling it. (If you missed Geri, go back and listen here.)

Geri couldn’t have done it alone. Over her entrepreneurial journey, she has had an army by her side. Here are some of her influencers:

1. Christina Pratt

Christina is a shaman and teacher whose teachings and philosophies have taught me many things over the years. But I think the most important thing I have learned is to have faith. That just because I don’t have an answer in front of me, it doesn’t mean there isn’t one.

2. The Canopy Walkway near the Napo River in Peru

One hundred-fifteen feet in the air, the walkway is 1/3 mile of nylon netting strung through the treetops in the Amazon Jungle. It will only hold three people at a time max, and the whole thing sways in the wind. Once you get up, you must move forward. There is no going back. I keep a photo of it on my desk to remind me that when things get crazy, all I have to do is put one foot in front of the other.

3. Get Clients Now by C.J. Hayden

It’s a great book. Really drills down the sales process for laymen. Simple and workable. I frequently recommend it to clients, but it really enabled me to see how to drill down branding and marketing for folks who have little or no background.

4. Parsons School of Design

Back in the 90’s, laid off from a job, I started a degree program in interior design at Parsons. It changed my life in many ways, but the most important aspect was in learning to trust my gut rather than rely on my brain. The creation of a brand is mostly about intuition, about leaps and connections that are not obvious. When it’s all working together, the result is amazing. When you are relying solely on the workings of the rational brain, the results are pretty lifeless.
